About Us
- The Institute was established under Operation Registration No. A-140 dated March 31, 2025, issued by the Ministry of Science and Technology.
- The Institute of Wood Science and Natural Resources was formerly known as the Institute for Rural and Mountainous Development Research (from 2003 to March 30, 2025).
- The year 2023 marked a significant milestone in the Institute’s wood and plant appraisal activities. Through continuous efforts by leading experts and researchers, optimal appraisal methods and professional workflows were developed, enhancing accuracy and efficiency in sample analysis.
- Over the years, the Institute has collaborated with competent authorities and agencies to carry out hundreds of appraisal missions, ranging from fossilized wood samples to household timber, furniture wood, and high-value forest timber. These efforts have contributed to detecting and preventing illegal timber trafficking and protecting rare plant species. The Institute also provides consultancy to the Forest Protection Force on sustainable forest resource protection and development.
- The achievements in wood and plant appraisal of the Institute of Wood Science and Natural Resources have partly affirmed its role and position in the research field. The Institute is committed to continuous innovation, improving research and appraisal quality to best serve community development needs and environmental protection.
Research on medicinal plants, wood chemistry, essential oils, and non-timber forest products.
- In-depth research on chemical composition, biological characteristics, cultivation techniques, care, harvesting, and production processes of medicinal plants; concurrently surveying, evaluating, and rationally exploiting other non-timber forest products to enhance utilization efficiency and promote sustainable development.
- Research to determine the composition, content, and activity of valuable compounds, including bioactive substances and essential oils in wood species, forestry crops, and medicinal plants; thereby proposing application orientations in medicine, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, functional foods, and related fields.
